What is a Bias Incident?
A bias incident is when someone feels they have been treated negatively because of their actual or perceived identifying characteristics, such as race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, health status, ethnicity or nationality, among others.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that is safe for all students, faculty, and staff in our department. We recognize that bias incidents which take place in our classes, spaces and departmental activitiess, impact the quality of education and student experience. Each of us is responsible for fostering a safe and inclusive environment, and we must take an active role in reporting incidents which threaten to harm others physically, mentally or emotionally.
Taking Action
The University of Arizona Dean of Students office has a process in place to address reports of bias incidents that take place at UA. Reporting incidents to the Dean of Students is encouraged if you observe or are the victim of a bias incident. The Dean of Students office is trained and staffed to address incidents with timeliness and sensitivity.
