Mary Ahern

PhD Student | School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness

About Me
I am originally from Scottsdale, Arizona. After receiving a bachelor of science degree in public health from the University of Arizona, I began work as a nutrition educator and fell in love with the science of nutrition.
I eventually returned to school to complete my dietetics classes, get my MS in nutrition, and become a dietitian. However, nutrition research has always been my passion in the field. I am fascinated by the relationships between nutrition, metabolism, human variability, and disease. After working at the NIH as a research fellow, I knew it was time for me to return to school for my PhD. You can find me cooking, reading, hiking, or walking my golden retriever Lucy in my free time.

Why I chose the Nutritional Sciences Program at the University of Arizona
Since I did my undergraduate degree here, I knew I loved Tucson and would be happy to return! I also loved the interdisciplinary emphasis in the nutrition program and the first-year rotations that allow you to work with the professor before committing full-time.
